Veteran Removes Illegal Mexican Flag, May Be Charged
Reno resident cuts down Mexican flag flying above U.S. flag after outcry
A Veteran from Reno, Nev. has hit headlines after he took matters into his own hands yesterday and tore down a Mexican flag that was being illegally flown above a U.S. flag at a local business.
Local news station krnv News 4 had received calls yesterday afternoon from angry residents complaining about the Mexican flag. When the station sent a reporter to investigate the Veteran took the opportunity to make a statement in front of the cameras.
The man commented “I’m Jim Brossert and I took this flag down in honor of my country with a knife from the United States army. I’m a veteran, I am not going to see this done to my country. if they want to fight us, then they need to be men, and they need to come and fight us, but I want somebody to fight me for this flag. They’re not going to get it back.”
The hispanic store owner who witnessed the incident would not make comment on camera but told krnv over the phone that he was flying the flag as a mark of solidarity to the hispanic community. Pro-immigration protests have been ongoing in the area all weekend after raids were conducted by authorities in the area last week.
The store owner said he is an American citizen and did not know what he was doing was against the law. However, according to federal law it is illegal to fly any flag above the U.S. flag, and if flying more than one they must be on separate poles and be of an equal size.
The Reno police department has told krnv that Brossert will faces charges for theft if the store owner files a police report of what happened.
Similar incidents have previously been reported in Maywood, CA., Tucson, Arizona, and Jupiter, Florida.
Way to go Jim. I’m with you 110%. As an American citizen it is the store owners responcibility to know or learn the law.You did the right thing.

I believe that if the individual store owner is indeed a U.S. citizen, he then must know how the veteran felt and forget the petty suit. If the owner is indeed a citizen and didn’t serve in the military, the U.S. flag may not mean as much to him as it does to we that have served, but he must understand our intent to defend this country as he was defending the illegals to deface and disgrace this country by breaking our laws.

Way to go Jim! I’m also from Reno and most of us are sick and tired of these people pushing their way into our culture and ignoring our traditions and rules.. Tell me how many gang bangers are white? Thank You Jim! I to am a veteran and I stand with you in your decision to say “ENOUGH”and “Not On My Watch”. The thought of a foreign flag being flown above the American flag on American soil sickens me and should serve as a wake up call. We are being invaded by a foreign nation and our government has chosen, thus far, to sit by and do nothing. I remember the images on tv of thousands of mexican flags fluttering in the streets of US cities and the absolute brazeness of these people to protest against immigration measures being debated in this country, a country that they entered illegally. The moment they crossed the border into this country without having taken the appropriate steps to enter legally they stopped being immigrants and became criminals. End of story and they should be treated as such. They have no rights to claim and the flag of the offending/invading nation should be ripped down and disposed of whenever it is encountered. Also, if this government will not rise up to defend the sovereignty of our nation then it will be up to us, the American Citizen, to take the steps necessary to address the problem, to close the borders and properly deal with the foreign invaders/criminals. Your actions reflect great credit upon yourself and upon the Armed Service of the United States of America. HOOYAH!!!!
